African Drum Ensemble - A different music camp.

Ages 6-10 / $85


Experience the culture of West Africa through the new Kathy's Music African Drum Ensemble.  Students will learn basic world percussion rudiments and begin to experience the power of improvisation. Feel the music, move to the beat, and find your own rhythm of life! At week 6, the students will perform what they have learned and show their stuff in The African Music Showcase!

Students will be able to…..
-        (Perform)
o   Thump Thump by Jim Solomon [introduction to world percussion]
o   Kinka from the Ewe Region of Ghana
 Kpanlogo (vocals and percussion)
o   As an ensemble, blend timbres and match dynamic levels
-         (Respond)
o   By identifying the sounds of a variety of African instruments.
o   Through purposeful movement to specified music events.
-        (Create)
o   Improvise simple rhythmic variations/embellishments on familiar melodies.
-         (Relate)
o   Identify various uses of music in African culture.
o   Identify similarities between African music and Western Music.

Mt. Lebanon:  Tues 6:00 PM – 6/23, July 7-28, & Aug 4
AND/OR
McMurray: Wed 6:30 PM – 6/24, July 8-29, & Aug 4

Final Dress rehearsal 8/4 in McMurray at 6:30.
Parent Performance 8/5 in McMurray at 7:00.

SPECIAL VALUE: Students must register for one day (tues or wed), but are invited to attend both days each week at no extra cost, just MORE MUSIC.
Max of 8 students per class.
