Kindermusik helps babies develop language skills!

Musical Parenting Tip for Babies:  Explore and label sounds

Why?
  • Just as we recognize the importance of developing a large spoken vocabulary, it is important for us to recognize the importance of developing a similar vocabulary for sounds
  • Building this vocabulary will help baby tune in to subtle distinctions in both music and speech.
How?
  • Discover how experience with the sounds of different languages affects baby's processing of language
  • Play the e-book 'Cockadoodle Moo!' and hear the different sounds barnyard animals make (includes both vocal imitations AND authentic animals sounds, as you page through on your screen).
  • Cue up the Barnyard Montage (on the Old MacDonald CD), and sing some of the motifs to baby.  Sing the 'heehaw' of the donkey, and the 'arff' of the dog.  Help baby notice the different sounds of the bass clarinet (donkey), and guitar (dog).  Create a different movement for each of those sounds.
