Let Them Eat Cake! Outside the studio....

Let Them Eat Cake!  Outside the studio….
By Kathy Morrison, Studio Director

I love really good food. On a day when I’m teaching, I’m especially hungry --all day long.  Our other teachers feel the same way. So we REALLY understand when a child is hungry – especially if the class or lesson is around lunch or dinner time.  When your child is hungry, please feed them so that they can enjoy their music class/lesson.

However, please eat outside the studio….

No matter how hard we try to avoid it – if there’s food in the studio, then it ends up in the classroom and then ultimately sticky hands or crumbs end up on the instruments. (You should see what we clean off of the piano keys each week!).

We have people in our community of families that have severe food allergies.  By keeping food and drinks outside the studio, we are protecting the safety of these folks who struggle with allergies.  Sometimes just the smell can pose a problem; and we are learning more about how much food vapors are traveling through the air.  It’s surprising.

And then there’s the whole “Monkey See, Monkey Do” challenge.  When one student sees another student eating a snack, then they want a snack, too. Me included! Who wouldn’t?

Let’s work together.
Please DO bring water bottles and baby bottles. Please use bottles in the waiting area, not in the classroom. It's a good "rule of thumb."  Nursing moms are always welcome!

Please DO give your child a snack before class.  We ask that you do that before you enter the studio doors. Consider making Music Day the time to have a picnic in the car or your day to stop at Subway, etc.

Please DO pack a snack if your child is a diabetic or struggles with low blood sugar. Please DO advise the teacher of how best to recognize the signs when the child is in distress. Please DO stay close by during lesson or class times so that you can assist if needed. If a child needs a snack due to health reasons, then help them with a snack in the waiting area and then rejoin the group as soon as you can. We don’t want you to miss a thing!

We are a community of people who value each other and are passionate about music. We want each family to feel confident that their child’s needs can be met while at Music Lessons/Classes. This plan is designed to do just that!  Thanks for your help.
