Meet Sarah Steranka - A New Flute Teacher with Kathy's Music
Sarah had her first flute lesson in the fourth grade, and soon
after knew she would never want to put the instrument down. She now enjoys a multi-faceted
career as a performing soloist and orchestral musician, having appeared in
concert across the United States, France, England, and Holland. Sarah’s solo
career began after winning the Carnegie Mellon Concerto Competition at the age
of nineteen.
She currently enjoys collaborating with local composers and sound
engineers, specializing in contemporary music and electronic soundscapes.
Sarah
remains an active teacher in the Pittsburgh area, teaching private students in the South Hills, Oakland and Squirrel Hill. Her passion for Music Theory also led her to teach
the subject at Carnegie Mellon University’s Pre-College program in the summer
of 2014.
Sarah continues to perform with the Lutheran Memorial Concert Series
in Erie, PA, and has appeared with the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra,
Bodiography Contemporary Ballet, and OvreArts. Sarah holds a Bachelor of Fine
Arts in Flute Performance from Carnegie Mellon University, where she studied
with Alberto Almarza and Jeanne Baxtresser. She occasionally puts her flute down to enjoy running
long distance and developing her vinyl record collection.
We are so pleased to have Sarah teaching for us starting in January 2014.
